Laser Tattoo Removal
Tattoos have been around for centuries and they mean something different to everyone. Unfortunately, there are many who end up regretting their body art later on. What once seemed like a good idea can lead to psychological and career-related problems.
Fortunately, it is now possible to regain your confidence by safely and effectively fading and removing unwanted tattoos using the latest medical-grade laser technology. Clinica Lase specialises in laser tattoo removal and has helped countless clients in Melbourne and Ballarat. Say goodbye to your unwanted ink and hello to a fresh start.
Our laser treatments can remove both amateur and professional tattoos, but it's important to note that the number of treatments required may vary depending on the complexity and depth of the tattoo. Our laser tattoo removal services are also effective on permanent makeup, such as tattooed eyebrows, lips, and eyelids. We take particular care to protect your eyes during the removal of any facial tattoos or makeup.
At Clinica Lase, we use the most advanced laser systems available today for tattoo removal solutions to ensure you have the best results with the fewest sessions needed.
With Cutera Enlighten, we can effectively target all tattoo colors, regardless of depth, resulting in a more complete and thorough removal process. This means that even the most intricate and multi-colored tattoos can be safely and thoroughly removed with fewer sessions required.
We also utilise Pico technology, which can potentially halve the number of tattoo removal sessions needed. This innovative technology uses two pulse durations to break up ink more effectively, resulting in a safer, more comfortable, and potentially faster tattoo removal experience.
Commonly asked questions
How does laser tattoo removal work?
When you are tattooed, a needle repeatedly punctures your skin so that ink can be injected into the dermis, which is the second layer of the skin. In an effort to heal these wounds, your body sends white blood cells to the area. However, because of the size of the ink particles, the white blood cells are not able to clear the ink away, which is how a tattoo remains under your skin.
Laser tattoo removal works in conjunction with your body’s lymphatic system to remove the ink from your body. Over the course of several sessions, the laser breaks down more and more of the ink until the tattoo disappears.
What kind of laser is used in tattoo removal?
At Clinica Lase we use The Enlighten from Cutera which uses three different wavelengths (532, 670 and 1064) to be able to target all different ink colours. The machine uses Picosecond and Nanosecond technology which allows us to break down ink particles more effectively, safely and in fewer treatments.
Can you completely remove a tattoo with laser?
In most cases yes you can get full clearance. All tattoos are different though so this can vary depending on each person and sometimes there can still be some shadowing left behind. As the ink is absorbed into the lymphatic system tattoos can still break down further over the months and years following tattoo removal treatment.
Does laser tattoo removal hurt?
The Enlighten from Cutera does feel more comfortable than some other tattoo removal lasers however the treatment can still feel uncomfortable. We usually use a zimmer cooling system and cold packs to make this more manageable. The sensation has been likened to repeatedly snapping elastic bands across the skin. Whilst uncomfortable, the majority of our clients find this manageable and it is also a very quick treatment so discomfort won’t last long.
Does laser hair removal leave a mark or scar?
Tattoo removal with Cutera Enlighten is safe and effective for all skin types. We usually would not expect any scarring to be left behind after tattoo removal providing you follow the aftercare instructions. We always provide a thorough consultation before treatment to ensure you are a suitable candidate and to explain any risks that might apply to you. Allowing the area to heal properly after each treatment will greatly reduce the risk of scarring.
Can you remove just one part of a tattoo?
Yes, the laser is very precise so it can be used to remove smaller sections of your tattoo if that is required. We will go through this in the consultation to ensure this is discussed and only the required areas are treated.
Do I need a consultation before laser hair removal?
Yes, we always do a thorough consultation before any tattoo removal treatment. We will discuss the process and the frequency of the treatment you will require. All tattoos are different so this is necessary to ensure a good outcome.
What should I do to prepare my skin before laser hair removal?
- Do not wear makeup on the day of treatment.
- No sun-tanning or self-tanners 4 weeks prior to treatment. This includes spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning beds and general sun exposure.
- Some medications or supplements may increase your risk of bruising. Your clinician will discuss these medications and supplements with you during your consultation at Clinica Lase.
- Avoid treatments that may irritate your skin for 1-2 weeks prior to your treatment, this includes waxing and depilatories.
- Notify your clinician about any changes to your health or medications since your last treatment.
- If you have a history of herpes or cold sores, you may require an anti-viral prescription prior to your laser tattoo removal treatment
How many sessions will my laser tattoo removal require?
The number of sessions required for laser tattoo removal will vary from person to person as there are quite a few factors which can make a difference to results. We will need to consider the type of ink, colours used, ink depth, layering of previous tattoos and where on the body the tattoo is.
On average we would estimate around 8-10 sessions but this can vary depending on the above factors.
How do I care for my skin after laser tattoo removal?
Avoid sun exposure for 2 – 4 weeks after your treatment and always apply a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen before going outside
Refrain from using any products that might irritate the skin, this includes products that contain retinol, tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids and astringents. Wait until the skin has fully healed and all crusting has resolved before applying additional products to the skin
