Cosmelan works by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase, which plays a central role in the formation of melanin (pigment). The initial mask is applied in-clinic and left on for several hours, followed by a prescribed homecare routine to extend the effects of the peel and prevent pigment recurrence.
Cosmelan may be used to treat:
- Melasma
- Sunspots
- Freckles
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)
- Uneven skin tone due to excess melanin
Cosmelan is suitable for most skin types and is often recommended for individuals with persistent pigmentation that has not responded to other modalities. It is not suitable during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or for those using certain medications.
The application is not usually painful, but some clients may experience warmth or tingling. Post-treatment effects may include redness, peeling, and dryness.

- Full homecare protocol including depigmenting cream and soothing products
- Follow-up appointment at 4 weeks
- Ongoing reviews as needed

Downtime: Moderate – peeling, redness, and dryness may occur for up to 7–10 days
Treatment Duration : 45 minutes (mask is worn for several hours post-visit)
