Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy has been widely used medically for accelerating the healing of injuries. The way it works is the Platelets which are actually cells that are part of your blood have a roll in your body to promote the healing and clotting process. Platelet Rich Plasma is a concentrate of your own blood that has a high number of platelets. It can be injected into a certain area to help develop the platelets’ function and as a result increase the wound healing process and to assist to rejuvenate skin.
A simple blood sample of 8-20mls is extracted. This blood, from your own body, is placed in a centrifuge for several minutes, separating plasma from your red blood cells. This platelet rich plasma is combined with calcium chloride and injected into the skin. The procedure takes approximately 45 minutes with patients seeing improvement from 2-3 weeks. Collagen takes 3 months to mature so improvements continue over time.
Upon arrival you will be asked to fill out a consultation form which will include questions about your skin and hair type, medical conditions, previous treatments, etc. You will then have a private discussion with an experienced cosmetic nurse who will assess your individual requirements, suggest a tailored plan and take you through the details of the procedure including pre-care and aftercare. This will also give you the opportunity to have any questions or queries regarding the procedure answered.
If you concerned about discomfort, you also have the option of a numbing cream application prior to treatment. You can discuss this with your clinician during the consultation.
